FAQs

  • Because diamonds are installed with typical encapsulation methods, they will be safely secured in the manicure until the manicure is removed or rebalanced ("filled").

Manicures from skilled, professional technicians are typically retained on the nail 4-6 weeks with ideal appointment spacing at 2-3 weeks to retain proper structure.

If you followed our installation guides, prepped your client's natural nail as usual, and the stone was lost before an equivalent manicure application would have failed, please contact us for an installation consult and replacement.

Repeated requests for replacement may be denied at our discretion.

  • File off the top layer of manicure product. Use cuticle nippers to trim away product surrounding the diamond.

Once exposed, remove carefully with tweezers and place in a small tray, dappen dish, or other container. Neither acrylic- nor gel-based products should adhere to the stone. Then, get ready to reinstall in the next manicure design!

As always, working over fabric in a dark color will maximize visibility and minimize the risk of a stone bouncing in the event it is accidentally dropped.

  • Rhinestones are made of acrylic, the same type material that constitutes nail enhancements. Recall that both gel and acrylic systems cure into acrylic polymer.

When encapsulated, a rhinestone's facets disappear into the surrounding product, leaving only the reflective backing visible.

Diamonds, with their vastly different crystalline structure, do not suffer the same effect. Because the refractive index of diamond is 2.4 where acrylic's is 1.5, a diamond's brilliance shines even through a protective layer of acrylic or gel.

  • All diamonds sold by My Diamond Nails are made in a laboratory by skilled professionals in a controlled environment. Clean, consistent processes are vital for producing stones with maximal clarity and cut ratings.

Lab-made diamonds are authentic diamonds with the same chemical makeup and structure as diamonds from a mine. They have never been used in any other application or "lived a prior life".

Unless certified with a GIA Origin Report - a service that began in 2020 - it is impossible to know if a mined diamond in circulation was part of the blood diamond trade, mined by a child laborer, or used to fund civil wars in the most resource-rich, per-capita-impoverished regions on Earth.

Additionally, laboratories are the only facilities capable of cutting even the smallest of stones with incredible precision. For these reasons, My Diamond Nails is proud to only source diamonds from laboratories.

  • All round diamonds, even our smallest sized stones, are Brilliant Cut with 58 facets. This modern cut maximizes light return (sparkle).

  • The best size diamond is dependent on your client's natural nail width, desired nail length, and the intended nail design.

Even petite nails can accommodate large diamond sizes if the nail apex is sufficiently tall. Please see our Diamond Size page for more detail.

  • Diamonds are shipped via FedEx or USPS Monday through Saturday from our location in Michigan, USA.
